Foundation Stage 2017 - 2018

Miss Rowlands

Welcome to F2!

This is where you will have your first experience of Greenleas Primary School.

There are currently two classes in F2: 23 children in Penguin Class and 23 children in Duckling Class. Both classes share our Outdoor Classroom.
All areas of learning are taught within classes and the children are encouraged to learn through play and experience.  The children will be taught in ability sets for both phonics and maths.

Please have a look at our class pages to find out more about our curriculum.

Topic Overviews and Topic Webs - this class page will have our Long Term Overview where you can see the topics we will be covering over the whole year and any enrichment activities.  As well as topic webs which are a more detailed insight into what we are learning.

Useful Information for Parents - this class page has information for parents regarding the EYFS curriculum, phonics and handwriting.  As well as educational songs we use in F2 to teach the children numbers, shapes, letter sounds etc.

Homework in F2

Homework bags are sent home on Fridays. Homework in F2 usually consists of a reading book (from November), phonics worksheets and numeracy worksheet based on the work the children have completed that week. Sometimes children may be asked to complete a 'research task' related to a current topic e.g. going to the library to find out information about dinosaurs.
Completed homework and reading books should be sent back into school on either a Monday or Tuesday.

Magic Moments

If your child does something amazing at home please fill in one of our 'Magic Moments'!
Maybe your child has learnt to swim or read an environmental sign. We want to know about it!

Please download a magic moment form (below), fill it in, and pass it to a member of our F2 team or post it in our magic moment postbox. This information will then go into your child's learning journey.

Phonics and Handwriting

At Greenleas we use a mix of Jolly Phonics and the Letters and Sounds scheme. Jolly phonics help to give context to the letters and the children really enjoy the stories and songs associated with these. We teach the sound and the written letter at the same time so our children understand that the sound relates to a letter of the alphabet.

We encourage cursive writing right from the start. Although it looks complicated, it is actually much easier because all the lower case letters start with a dot on the line. This will later help the children to join their letters (a Year 2 expectation) with ease and without learning different letter movements.

Please see our 'Useful Information for Parents' class page for support with phonics and handwriting.
