There are currently two classes in F2: 22 children in Penguin Class and 22 children in Duckling Class. Both classes share our Outdoor Classroom.
All areas of learning are taught within classes and the children are encouraged to learn through play and experience.

Please have a look at our class pages to find out more about our curriculum.

Topic Overviews and Topic Webs - this class page will have our Long Term Overview where you can see the topics we will be covering over the whole year and any enrichment activities.  As well as topic webs which are a more detailed insight into what we are learning.

Useful Information for Parents - this class page has information for parents regarding the EYFS curriculum, phonics and handwriting.  As well as educational songs we use in F2 to teach the children numbers, shapes, letter sounds etc.

Homework in F2

Whilst homework is not compulsory in F2, we would encourage you to support your child in completing any homework sent home. This usually consists of a Reading book, Phonics/Literacy activity and a Maths activity. Reading books will be sent home in homework bags after half term. Any other activities will be emailed to you on our weekly 'Ask Me About' newsletter. Children will read their reading book in school over a 2 week period, after this reading books will be sent home along with a reading record for you to complete. Within their reading record will be teacher comments in order for you to see their progress in school. Reading bags will be sent home every other Friday and parents can keep the childrens books for a week. Once read at home please return to school and your childs new reading book will be sent home. Sometimes children may be asked to complete a 'research task' related to a current topic e.g. going to the library to find out information about dinosaurs. Completed homework and reading books should be sent back into school on Monday.

Magic Moments

If your child does something amazing at home please fill in one of our 'Magic Moments'!
Maybe your child has learnt to swim or read an environmental sign. We want to know about it!

Please download a magic moment form (below), fill it in, and pass it to a member of our F2 team or post it in our magic moment postbox. This information will then go into your child's learning journey.

Read All About It!

This year in F2 we have our very own 'Read All About It' display, children will have the opportinity to share things they have learnt at home e.g. this could be newspaper clippings, leaflets from trips, tickets from outings children are very welcome to bring these in and talk about them during our sharing news carpet session on a Monday and Tuesday.

Phonics and Handwriting

At Greenleas we use our own version of Letters and Sounds to teach Phonics. Our program helps to give context to the letters and the children really enjoy stories, games and songs associated with these.

We encourage cursive writing right from the start. Although it looks complicated, it is actually much easier because all the lower case letters start with a dot on the line. This will later help the children to join their letters (a Year 2 expectation) with ease and without learning different letter movements.

Please see our 'Useful Information for Parents' class page for support with phonics and handwriting.
